Right now, the largest concentration of zombies was just outside the neighborsâ gate.
But quite a few had gathered outside their own gate as well.
Especially after they had stepped out onto the balcony; an unknown number of zombies had already caught their scent.
"Weâre not going out. Weâll stay in the courtyard and kill as many as we can."
Nina Jacobs could tell that something had drawn away a number of the zombies outside.
"Sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen..."
Leo Hale counted the zombies outside their gate on the drone feed. Curiously, a portion of them was now running in another direction.
"What in the world is happening?"
"Someone was discovered by the zombies."
"How do you know?"
âLooks like cursing out Shannon Renner worked,â Leo Hale thought, thrilled that Nina Jacobs was finally talking to him again.
"Just a guess."
It was indeed a guess. Nina Jacobs had overheard Holt Tateâs words earlier and deduced that a group of people in hiding had met with disaster.
The four of them quickly formulated a battle plan.
"Wait for me. Iâm going to grab something."
Nina Jacobs went to her bedroom.
She emerged with a sleek, long blade in her hand.
The blade resembled a traditional Drakonian Imperial Blade, but it wasnât quite as long. Its design was simple yet elegant, and the intricate patterns on its surface faintly reflected a red light.
Nina Jacobs had a rather slender figure. Holding this blade, she looked like a character straight out of an anime.
Chelsea Walsh was momentarily stunned.
"Whereâd you get the blade? Itâs so cool."
Leo Hale couldnât resist reaching out to touch it.
"Found it when I went out a couple of days ago."
âShe had indeed gone out a couple of days ago, but it was to complete a mission.â
Leo Hale wanted to ask her to take him along to get one for himself next time, but he knew this wasnât the time to bring it up.
After Leo Hale used his Superpower to open the reinforced main gate, the zombies pressed against it immediately tumbled to the ground in a heap.
The four of them stood back-to-back in the center of the courtyard.
Just as the zombies behind them were about to lunge, Chelsea Walsh used the electric current from her Thunder Element Superpower to temporarily pin them in place.
With a BANG, Leo Hale used his power to lock the iron gate tight again.
The moment the 12 zombies entered the courtyard, they scrambled to their feet and rushed toward the four of them.
Upstairs in her room, Vera Coleman cried out in alarm, but Daniel Hale quickly covered her eyes.
"Have faith in the kids."
It was impossible not to worry. Daniel Hale wanted to go down and help, but his wife needed his care more at that moment.
In the time it took to speak, Nina Jacobs had already lopped off a zombieâs head with her long blade.
"Works like a charm!"
Nina Jacobs found the length of the blade was perfect for killing zombies.
It cut through them as if they were mud.
SCHLICK!
Ian Chandler kicked a female zombie to the ground, and Nina Jacobs followed up, plunging her long blade into its skull.
"Watch out!"
Seeing another zombie lunging for Nina Jacobs, Chelsea Walsh was about to use her Thunder Element Superpower to paralyze it, but saw that Nina had already cut it down!
As a Fireball flew past her, Chelsea Walsh finally noticed a zombie that had snuck up behind her at some point.
The Fireball blew right through half of the zombieâs face.
From her balcony not far away, Shannon Renner also witnessed this scene.
Her eyes were filled with shock.
She had tagged along for the past few days while they killed zombies, and Nina Jacobs had rarely used her Superpower.
But only now did she realize how much Ninaâs Fire Element Superpower had advanced.
After all, newly awakened Superpower Users were supposed to be weak.
But she had no time to dwell on it.
The scent of blood on Keaton Sloan had agitated the zombies outside, and they had already broken down the gate...
Meanwhile, the dozen or so zombies that had been let into Nina Jacobsâs courtyard were quickly annihilated.
Although most of them had died by Nina Jacobsâs hand, it gave the group a huge boost of confidence.
âMaybe we can survive this crisis after all!â
"Next door..."
Chelsea Walsh also heard the sounds coming from next door.
It sounded like the zombies had all rushed into the neighboring courtyard.
"Ignore them for now. Letâs continue."
Nina Jacobs wasnât interested in the situation next door. They just needed to make sure the zombies in the adjacent yard didnât climb over the wall.
"Right!"
Leo Hale opened the main gate again.
This time, more than twenty zombies squeezed in.
Nina Jacobs no longer held back. Her Heart of Strange Fire was already taking effect, and every Fireball she launched struck a zombieâs vital point.
Combined with the long blade in her hand, most of the zombies were decapitated before they could even get close.
"Sis, youâre amazing..."
The twenty-plus zombies were all dealt with in just over ten minutes. Ian Chandler was so stunned he even forgot to start collecting the bodies.
Chelsea Walsh was exhausted, but her heart was pounding with excitement.
"Zombies from next door are about to climb over!"
Just then, Daniel Hale rushed downstairs.
He and Vera Coleman had a clear view from the second floor. The zombies in the neighboring yard were trampling each other, trying to climb over the wall.
"Got it."
Nina Jacobs dug a glittering object out of a zombieâs head.
The diamond-shaped, glass-like object refracted a beautiful light.
"What is this?"
No one present had ever seen anything so beautiful.
âHow could something like this be inside that zombieâs head?â
"Sis, thereâs one here, too."
Seeing this, Ian Chandler dug out another one.
"I donât know what it is either, but itâs beautiful."
Nina Jacobs put away the Crystal Core in her hand.
âZombie Crystal Cores. So theyâve finally formed.â
âThat means killing zombies is more meaningful now.â
"Nina Jacobs, save me!"
Shannon Renner was in a full-blown panic.
She was on the second floor of the house next door, and a dense, dark mass of zombies had already swarmed the courtyard.
She had just tried to kill the zombies with her Water Element Superpower, but it was currently too weak to even pierce their skulls.
âNina Jacobs saved me once in my past life, so sheâll definitely save me this time, too.â
However, Nina Jacobs simply said something to Chelsea Walsh beside her, not even sparing Shannon a glance.
Chelsea Walshâs eyes lit up after hearing it, and she immediately left.
Seeing Shannon Renner still screaming for help, Leo Hale couldnât stop himself from cursing at her again:
"We already saved you once!
You brought this on yourself! No one owes you anything!"
If it werenât for Shannon Renner, they wouldnât be facing this crisis.
If it werenât for Shannon Renner, Nina Jacobs wouldnât have been forced to kill someone just now.
"Want to get even?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
"Yes!"
The more Leo Hale cursed, the angrier he got.
"Then go figure out a way to shut their gate,"
Nina Jacobs said.
âShut their gate?â
Leo Haleâs eyes widened.
âIs Nina Jacobs planning to lock Shannon Renner in with a courtyard full of zombies?â
"Thatâs right. There are so many zombies, how could we possibly kill them all at once?" Nina Jacobs said with a helpless expression. "And there are still plenty more outside our own gate."
Leo Hale thought for a moment and finally made up his mind:
"Alright, Iâll do it!"
He hadnât expected Nina Jacobs to go this far to help him vent his anger. Leo Hale was surprisingly touched.
Leo Hale climbed onto the SUV in the courtyard and easily vaulted onto the eaves above the gate.
This spot was closest to the neighborsâ gate, the optimal range for using his Gold Element Superpower.
"What do you think youâre doing?!"
Seeing Leo Hale preparing to lock the main gate, Shannon Renner lost her composure.
"Saving you, of course,"
Nina Jacobs said with a smile.
Shannon Renner couldnât help but shudder.
âHow is this saving me?â
âThis is basically sentencing me to a gruesome end!â
For a split second, Shannon Renner even suspected that the Nina Jacobs before her was the same one from her past life, returned for revenge.
