Keith Dempsey realized their plan had been exposed.
Unable to restrain himself, Leo Hale strode forward and punched him to the ground.
He grabbed the manâs collar and demanded,
"Are people like you who the base works so hard to protect?"
He never imagined someone would target their own people.
The thought of how diligently Daniel Hale had served the base for so many days made him furious.
But Keith Dempsey just smirked, saying with a nonchalant look,
"âPeople like usâ? Donât make yourself out to be so noble.
But how did you figure out this part of the plan?"
"Thatâs not your concern. Take them all away,"
Adrian Shaw said.
"Wait a minute."
Nina Jacobs blocked their path.
She looked at Keith Dempsey. "This part?"
âCould they really have another phase to their plan?â
Nina Jacobs suspected she might be overthinking it.
But Keith Dempseyâs brazen reaction and words struck her as extremely odd.
Keith Dempsey didnât seem to expect Nina Jacobs to ask that.
For a fleeting moment, a hint of panic flashed in his eyes, but he quickly composed himself.
"You must be Nina Jacobs, right?
I feel like weâve met somewhere before?"
Nina Jacobs just frowned slightly at his words.
She had indeed met him, but as Claire Warner.
Back then, Keith Dempsey had come to her to buy medicine. They hadnât seen each other since.
âHe canât possibly recognize me, unless...â
"Youâre stalling for time."
Nina Jacobs said as she backed away, her eyes turning exceptionally cold.
âIf itâs really what Iâm thinking, Iâll cut these people into a thousand pieces.â
"Whatâs wrong, Nina?"
Seeing her like this, Daniel Hale felt a sense of foreboding.
But Nina Jacobs had no time to answer. Her figure quickly vanished from the dormitory exit.
The muggy night air grew thick with anxiety.
Ever since she was reborn, Nina Jacobs had never been as nervous as she was at this moment.
She had gone to great lengths to use her identity as Claire Warner to warn Adrian Shaw.
She got him to notice that Tina Sullivan, who once worked at Window 3, was connected to Keith Dempsey.
Adrian Shaw hadnât disappointed her. Since Keith Dempsey worked for Hugo Crawford, he quickly picked up on Hugo Crawfordâs scheme.
He had then discreetly informed her, and together they had set tonightâs trap.
But Keith Dempseyâs words just now had sent her into a panic.
âIf they have another plan, and that plan requires luring me away...â
âThen it must be Vera Coleman at home!â
Her heart pounded wildly, especially when she thought of the safety of Sabrina Hale and Leontine Hale.
She raced back home, not even bothering to knock. A powerful Fireball blasted the front gate open in the dark of night!
"Whoâs there?!"
In the courtyard, Wayne Abbott and the others immediately took a defensive stance.
They just didnât expect the intruder to be Nina Jacobs.
"Whereâs my mom?"
Nina Jacobs rushed into the courtyard, only breathing a sigh of relief when she saw Vera Coleman.
"Itâs okay, Captain. Weâre all here,"
Warren Ramsey said.
Vera Coleman, however, still seemed confused about what was happening.
"Whatâs going on?"
Just a moment ago, Merrick Stone and Lucy Lynch had pulled her into the house with wary expressions. Not long after, she heard Treasureâs roars from the courtyard.
Then Wayne Abbott and the others arrived. It seemed like someone had broken into the yard.
But those people were acting very strangely.
After Wayne Abbott and the others moved aside, Nina Jacobs saw a line of five people standing by the courtyard wall.
The five of them had vacant eyes and were relentlessly bashing their heads against the wall.
Their foreheads were already drenched in blood, yet none of them stopped.
Wayne Abbott had rushed over as soon as he received the signal from Merrick Stone and Lucy Lynch.
But the state of these people left them baffled.
Nina Jacobs, however, knew at a glance that this was all Treasureâs doing.
"What? This dog has a Superpower?"
Alaric Fletcher was completely stunned.
"Itâs Hypnosis."
Nina Jacobs crouched next to Treasure.
Just like on Beldane Island, Treasure could hypnotize anyone it perceived as a threat.
She saw an open can of meat on the ground beside Treasure.
The can of meat must have been what these men had brought for Treasure, but the dog hadnât eaten any of it.
"Thank you, Treasure."
Nina Jacobs patted its head.
When she got Treasure, she had indeed hoped it would guard the house, but she never expected it to actually do so.
As if sensing her gratitude, Treasure barked twice with pleasure.
"So these people... their target was us?"
Vera Coleman finally understood.
Just a moment ago, she thought they were just thieves trying to steal supplies.
"Donât worry. None of the people involved in this will get away."
Nina Jacobs wished she could kill these men right now.
But by this time, Daniel Hale and Adrian Shaw had arrived.
Right after Nina Jacobs left, Daniel Hale had also realized the gravity of the situation.
He had even fallen several times on the way over, his face pale with fright.
He only collapsed in relief after seeing that everyone at home was safe.
"Whereâs Nina Jacobs?"
After getting a clear picture of what happened, Adrian Shaw realized that Nina Jacobs, who had been standing to the side just a moment ago, was gone.
Wayne Warner was guarding the door; clearly, Nina Jacobs had already left.
"I was just about to tell her that weâve already captured Hugo Crawford."
Adrian Shaw thought Nina Jacobs had gone to seek revenge on Hugo Crawford.
In truth, he was sweating bullets over what had happened.
He thought he had everything under control, but he never expected the other side to have a backup plan.
âBut why would Hugo Crawford send people to cause trouble for Vera Coleman?â
Adrian Shaw frowned, puzzled.
Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had snuck into another courtyard.
A light was on in a room inside.
In a second-floor bedroom, a woman was hastily packing her luggage.
Seven or eight large suitcases were already by the door. She was now pulling a long, flat wooden box out from under the bed.
The wooden box was filled with bars of Gold.
She calmly placed the Gold bars into a suitcase.
The communicator in her ear seemed to still be active.
"...Yes, tomorrow morning. Donât worry, someone will be waiting for me on Vaelen Road... Mmm, Iâll bring all the files, too..."
"Tonight? Nothing will happen tonight. You have to understand, I wasnât involved at all."
The woman sneered and hung up the communicator.
It was a base-issued communicator.
Just as she was about to continue packing the contents of the wooden box into the suitcase, her hand froze.
The woman glanced behind her, her face instantly looking as if she had seen a ghost.
Nina Jacobs was standing at the bedroom door, having appeared there at some unknown point, watching her with a wry smile.
"Leaving tomorrow morning? Isnât that a little late?"
Nina Jacobs watched the screaming woman, a layer of frost spreading across her eyes.
"You... how did you get in?!"
The woman kept backing into the corner of the room. She tried to grab the communicator on the bed, but it suddenly started emitting black smoke.
Nina Jacobs extinguished the flame at her fingertip. "You really are... quite good at hiding, Ms. Melody Barron."
"Let me guess. Your target from the very beginning was just me, wasnât it?
Just like how I killed your nephew, Keaton Sloan,
you wanted to go after my family. Your plan tonight was to use them to control me?"
Nina Jacobsâ words made Melody Barronâs well-maintained face turn deathly pale.
Her lips trembled, unable to form words.
"You know, Iâve actually wanted to kill you for a long time."
Six months ago, after killing Keaton Sloan, the thought of killing Melody Barron had crossed her mind.
Melody Barron was the former mayorâs wife and held a position of influence at the base.
