In the evening, Cheng Su was preparing dinner when she saw Ning Ge come back with a pale face, which startled her.
"What happened to you? Are you sick?" she approached to feel his forehead.
Ning Ge dodged, saying, "I feel a bit heavy-headed, donāt call me for dinner, I am going to lie down for a while."
Without waiting for Cheng Su to respond, he locked himself in his room.
There must be something wrong when someone acts out of the ordinary!
Cheng Su quickly called Qi Taiguo, who was in the bathroom, told him about Ning Geās condition, and Qi Taiguo frowned as he knocked on Ning Geās door, but there was no answer.
Qi Taiguo looked at Cheng Su, who pursed her lips and mimed something.
Qi Taiguo had no choice but to turn the knob and go in. He emerged after a short while and said, "He says he has a headache, I felt it, his forehead is a bit warm, Iāll get him some medicine."
Cheng Su became a bit anxious after hearing this and quickly poured a glass of water, saying, "You take a good look, make sure he doesnāt get a fever, itās easy to catch a cold with this weather."
"Mhm!"
Seeing him go in, she took a pot and started to boil another batch of porridge just in case. If he suddenly got sick, it wouldnāt be good to have nothing in his stomach.
Inside the room, Qi Taiguo gave Ning Ge the medicine and said, "If youāre feeling unwell anywhere, donāt just keep it to yourself, your sister-in-law is as anxious as an ant on a hot pan!"
After swallowing the medicine, Ning Ge looked steadily at Qi Taiguo and suddenly asked, "Big Brother Qi, under what circumstances would a soldier kill someone?"
Qi Taiguo was taken aback and replied, "If the other party severely infringes on national interests, damages the foundations of the country... But why do you ask this?"
With a faint smile, Ning Ge said, "Nothing, just curious," and lay down, closing his eyes.
Qi Taiguo found it all very odd, so he adjusted Ning Geās blanket and walked out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, Ning Geās eyes snapped open, staring at the white ceiling. A tear rolled down from the corner of his eye.
When Qi Taiguo came out, Cheng Su immediately asked him about the situation.
"Nothing much, he took his medicine and went to sleep, but the kid is a bit strange!" Qi Taiguo clicked his tongue.
"Strange in what way?"
"Canāt quite put my finger on it. Just feels strange," Qi Taiguo said. "Maybe being sick has made him a bit delirious?"
Cheng Su gave him a look and said, "Go downstairs and help me bring up the laundry, then letās eat!"
Qi Taiguo acknowledged with a sound.
After dinner, Cheng Su folded the clothes while discussing with Qi Taiguo that his mother-in-law and Elder Sister would be coming the next day.
Qi Taiguo said, "Iāll take a two-hour leave to pick them up. Why do they insist on coming over!"
"They are worried you wonāt have enough to eat or sleep well," Cheng Su joked and added, "If youāre not free, I can pick them up myself. But once theyāre here, Ning Ge will have to stay over at Southeast Ladder, so youād better arrange something!"
After speaking, she murmured about how small their house already was, that the guest room where Ning Ge was staying only had a bivouac, and wondered how he could be comfortable. She resolved that once they had money, they must get a bigger house.
Qi Taiguo said he got it, that at worst, he could sleep a few nights in the guest room and let the women have his bed.
That seemed to be the only solution.
Cheng Su clicked her tongue twice, glanced at the neatly folded clothes, and rummaged through them, asking, "Hey, Old Qi, did you bring all the laundry back?"
"I brought it all back, isnāt this everything?" Qi Taiguo said.
Cheng Su knit her brows, flipped through the clothes again and said, "Somethingās not right, have you made a mistake? Iām missing a skirt!"
Qi Taiguo walked over to look, "Which skirt? Everythingās here, I hung them all on one rod last night, and there were no clothes left underneath!"
