Elizabeth King walked around the courtyard, shaking her head persistently, then entered Jane Sampsonās room. Seeing that Jane Sampson wasnāt showing any discomfort, she began to unpack her stuff from her suitcase. Unable to hold back, Elizabeth King asked, "Sister Jane, donāt you think the accommodations here are a bit poor? Look at the courtyard, even the floor is just ordinary soil, not even basic cement. Just now, in my room, I even saw a cockroach."
What really overwhelmed Elizabeth King was that these old-style houses were never short of mosquitoes, cockroaches, and mice.
"Itās alright," Jane Sampson looked around and responded, "I think itās pretty good. At least each room has a separate public restroom, and the decorations there are quite nice, with a modern separation of dry and wet areas, and inside the room thereās a complete set of amenities."
Jane Sampson only put the empty suitcase into another empty wardrobe after hanging all her clothes, then added, "Although the courtyard is a bit simplistic, we film outdoors during the daytime, and return to our rooms to rest in the evening; we donāt really use the courtyard. Besides, compared to the last time I went to the northwest for filming, the conditions here are truly very good."
Jane Sampson wasnāt joking with Elizabeth King, "I experienced a primitive pit toilet in the northwest. That was when I truly despaired. But having been through that, I now feel accommodation like this is indeed very fortunate."
While Jane Sampson spoke, Elizabeth King kept staring at her intently as if trying to discern whether Jane Sampson was lying.
Elizabeth King didnāt know much about Jane Sampsonās background, but from the sight of Jane Sampsonās husband picking her up at the airport in a car worth millions, Elizabeth King figured Jane Sampsonās family must be well-off.
That was why Elizabeth King thought perhaps Jane Sampson would look down on the accommodation conditions even more than she did.
However, Elizabeth King was somewhat surprised by Jane Sampsonās lengthy, calm and composed answer to her question.
Her mobile phone on the head of the bed kept flashing. After Jane Sampson finished unpacking, she picked it up and realized that someone in the drama crew group had called everyone to have a meal together in front.
The village was a place without even takeaway, so the film crew had specially arranged for someone to handle the meals. Since everyone lived in scattered locations, it wasnāt possible to deliver to each person individually. Thus, the General Manager had previously told everyone to eat at a designated spot. Everyone could have their personal assistant pack food to take back, but the personnel of the film crew could not help with delivery.
One could say that the filming conditions here were indeed slightly more backward compared to other places.
When Jane Sampson arrived at the meal location, she was somewhat surprised to see from afar that it was surrounded by a group of people and some defenders were standing guard.
As Jane Sampson and Elizabeth King approached, the guardsā gazes immediately swept towards them.
"Who goes there!" one of the guards asked sharply.
"The... the film crew..." Elizabeth King was rendered speechless by the shout, standing there, unable to complete her sentence.
"Good day, comrades. We are actors from the film crew, I am Jane Sampson, third female role, and this is my assistant, Elizabeth King." Jane Sampson was the first to respond, having grown up inside a great courtyard, she naturally knew how to handle such a situation.
