James Blackās question actually left Jane Sampson stunned.
Why was ice cream suddenly brought up?
What does this have to do with ice cream?
Jane blinked her eyes, then shook her head vigorously, and seeing that James was still standing there, staring at her, she reached out and hugged his legs, resting her face against his waist.
It was only at this moment that Jane came back to her senses.
Looking up, she asked, "You donāt really think I came to the guard team just for an ice cream, do you?"
After asking, Jane looked at James with an expression that said, āare you stupidā and then continued, "How could that be? If I really wanted it that bad, Iād sneak out and buy it myself, and you wouldnāt even know!"
"You have no money," James gave Jane a very fitting reason.
"No, no, no," Jane chuckled and shook her head, "I do have money, the money you gave me this morning."
Using Jamesās card, James would know where sheād gone, but hadnāt he sent her a red envelope that morning?
Worst comes to worst, if she really wanted it that badly, she could call Nina out and sponge a meal off her.
However, having said that, Jane immediately regretted it.
Seeing the thoughtful look on Jamesās face, she really felt like slapping herself.
This guy wouldnāt start thinking and then stop giving her red envelopes in the future, would he? Jane promptly called out to James and quickly said, "Iāve been very good, and I definitely havenāt done anything you wouldnāt allow!"
James looked down at Jane, saw her trying to look well-behaved, curved the corner of his mouth into a smile, and gave a hum, his broad palm gently pressing down on her head.
She was becoming more skilled at acting spoiled.
James pried off Janeās hands wrapped around his legs and sat down beside her before speaking again, asking, "Did something happen to make you unhappy?"
Jane instinctively shook her head, "Not at all."
"Little swindler," James scoffed.
If something hadnāt upset her, thereās no way Jane would have suddenly driven to the guard team alone to find him.
Especially knowing that he would be back home in the evening.
The little swindler gave James a toothy smile. Sure, she was a bit upset for a while and really wanted someone to cheer her up, but now that she was with him, Jane didnāt want to talk to him about those upsetting and bothersome matters.
Peter Gingery arrived quickly, almost running all the way after having packed the meals, initially because he was worried he had left his brother hungry, but then, knowing that Jane had come to the guard team, he hurried to find her.
"Brother! Open the door! Iām here! Iāve brought lunch for little Jane," Peter shouted even before reaching the doorway. His voice was so loud that he could make an entire floorās people hear him without exaggeration.
James opened the door for Peter, who entered as if he was in his own home, slipping off his shoes and running inside, holding the lunchbox and ignoring James as he dashed toward Jane.
"Little Jane, Iāve packed lunch for you. Why didnāt you tell me you were coming to the guard team?" Peter sat on a chair opposite Jane, handing her the lunchbox while reprimanding her, "If I had known you were coming, I wouldnāt have eaten all the snacks last night. I could have saved some for you."
"She came to see me, why should she tell you?" James asked in a melancholic voice from behind Peter.
Peter turned his head to glance at James behind him and then quickly turned back, rolling his eyes out of Jamesās sight.
