She then muttered, "Why do you love to hold a walking stick and act impulsively just like Old Sir at our house?"
"Seems like I didnât hit hard enough." James Carter responded faintly, then leaned on the table and got up.
"Mr. Carter, donât bother with him anymore." Jane Sampson hastily walked over to stand by James Carter, genuinely worried he might not keep his balance, but she dared not directly support him.
"Mr. Carter, itâs cold, you might catch a cold with wet socks. Take them off and let them dry in the sunny part of the courtyard, thereâs sun this afternoon, they will dry up, by the time we leave they will be wearable. Besides, thereâs heating in the studio and youâll be in your slippers, itâs okay without socks." Jane Sampson quickly advised.
Jane Sampson knew that due to the condition of his leg, even though he exercises regularly, his body was still not like that of ordinary people.
"Yes, yes, yes, donât just focus on hitting me, first take off your socks and let them dry." Kendal Smith, standing a few steps away, nodded repeatedly, "Otherwise youâll catch a cold now, itâll really delay your singing practice. If you catch a cold here, it would be a real loss."
Only then did James Carter let Kendal Smith go, turned to Jane and said heâd step outside, then left the tea room.
After James Carter was out, Kendal Smith finally sat back down, thought for a while, and then confirmed with Jane, "Youâre not going to mention seeing me here to your family, right?"
Without waiting for Jane to speak, Kendal Smith continued, "Itâs not just that I donât like Julie Sampton, she doesnât like me either. Isnât Julie involved with Christopher Chip?"
"The marriage contract has been officially cancelled, whatâs there to say? I came here today to practice singing with Mr. Carter, didnât meet anyone else." Jane Sampson shrugged and spread her hands.
"Right on! Just for your chatting skills, you can use this studio anytime you want in the future, just let me know ahead of time, Iâll arrange it and wonât charge you a dime," Kendal Smith said, figuring James Carter might return soon, so he quickly stood up, "Iâll go check if the equipment is fixed, just sit and brew some tea with Mr. Carter, weâre all friends here, no need for formalities, I wonât see you out."
With that, Kendal Smith put on his leather shoes and ran out, so when James Carter walked back in barefoot, Kendal Smith had already disappeared.
"Where is he?" James Carter asked upon seeing only Jane remaining.
"He said he went to check if the equipment is fixed, but I think Mr. Smith might be afraid that Mr. Carter you will hit him again when you return." Jane Sampson laughed, but her eyes were fixed on James Carterâs feet.
"Probably." James Carter chuckled softly, "Iâve known him from early days, we were all young and hot-tempered then, we became friends through fighting. He got scared after I pinned him down and beat him up."
When James Carter finished talking and didnât hear a response from Jane, but saw her still staring at his feet, he asked with slight amazement, "Whatâs wrong?"
Jane wasnât the kind of impolite person in James Carterâs memory.
"Ah~ I just think itâs quite curious." Jane spoke, pulled both feet up from her seat, and without another word, took off her right sock, then dramatically lifted it towards James Carterâs feet, pointing to the inside of her own foot, "Mr. Carter, look!"
