Chapter 2091: Madam Liang's Plan

Chapter 2091: Chapter 2091: Madam Liang’s Plan

Madam Liang clapped her hands in delight upon hearing his affirmative response and leaned forward.

“Yunzheng, you see, teaching one is the same as teaching two. Why not also tutor my Dabao? Let him have a try next year too.”

Shu Yu, “…”

She suddenly looked at Dabao, who was obviously very resistant, “Mother, I’ve already said I’m not capable.”

“How will you know if you don’t try? You child, how come you have no ambition? We’ve wasted so much effort on you, your father and I have grayed our hair for your sake. Now there’s a Master Top Scorer teaching you, something others can only dream of, and you’re pushing it away? Are you out of your mind?”

Dabao angrily stood up, “But we agreed in the beginning, I was just to learn the basics so I wouldn’t be cheated when running a tavern in the future. We agreed that I study to earn money, not to take the imperial exams. Now you’re going back on your word, making it seem like I’m the one at fault.”

Madam Liang was visibly at a loss but quickly regained her righteousness, “How was I to know that after years of studying, you’d still have the same mindset? Besides, I’m doing this for your own good. Don’t be unappreciative. The teacher wants you to study to defy, defy your parents. Let me tell you, that’s unfilial.”

Saying that, she was about to hit Dabao.

The latter quickly got up and hid behind Shu Yu, feeling wronged, “Sister Yu, please help me out here. My mother resorts to using filial piety against me when she can’t win the argument. If I were less understanding and more uncultivated, who would care about this kind of threat, right?”

Shu Yu wanted to laugh, finding this mother-son quarrel amusing.

She quickly intervened, “Third Aunt, don’t act hastily. Whether he’s suitable for the child student exam should be judged by a professional, right?” She glanced at Meng Yunzheng, “Yun, do you have any opinions?”

Meng Yunzheng glanced at her humorously, knowing they shared the same thoughts.

Dabao indeed isn’t suitable to participate in the county exams right now. Not to mention him, even Shurui and Erniu have barely studied for four years.

However, a key difference with Shurui is that his initial mentor was Meng Yunzheng.

During their time in the exile area, Meng Yunzheng invested significant effort in him, ensuring Shurui had a solid foundational learning experience with one-on-one guidance from a reputable teacher.

After returning from exile, Meng Yunzheng even developed a learning plan for him.

Shurui’s starting point was already a step ahead of many, and coupled with his hardworking nature, ability to ask questions when in doubt, and a good reading environment at home, his experience from two trips abroad broadened his horizons.

Moreover, his learning progress has always been closely monitored by Meng Yunzheng, which led to the suggestion for him to try.

But Dabao, he’s clever, yet the issue is he doesn’t like studying, and has skipped classes multiple times. With little study time and his mind set on food, even compared to Erniu, his grades are lacking.

However, saying these things to Madam Liang wouldn’t help, so Meng Yunzheng paused for a moment and said to the expectant Madam Liang, “To determine suitability, I must first give Dabao a trial exam. If he can answer my questions correctly, then it’s not impossible for him to give it a shot.”

“Alright, a trial exam it is,” Madam Liang quickly agreed, then gave Dabao a stern look, “Answer well, understand?”

Dabao reluctantly agreed.
