The edge of the Forbidden Forest loomed like a wall of ancient, tangled shadows. As Ethan and Tonks approached the perimeter, the smell of damp earth and wild magic grew stronger. Standing right at the treeline, near a hut that looked like it had been built by someone with a very loose understanding of geometry, was a man the size of a small mountain.
Rubeus Hagrid was busy tending to a patch of pumpkins, but he looked up as they approached, his massive beard twitching with a wide, toothy grin.
"Hullo there!" Hagrid's voice boomed, vibrating the air. "Professor Dumbledore told me yeh might be headin' this way. Lookin' fer summat in the woods, are yeh?"
"Something like that, Hagrid," Ethan said, nodding to the half-giant. "A little rock with a big history."
"The Forest is a restless place today," Hagrid said, his expression turning serious. "The creatures... they know the Dark Lord's gone. It's like the whole place is breathin' again. If yeh're goin' deep, yeh'll want someone who knows the paths. Don't want yeh stumblein' into a patch of Acromantula by mistake."
"We'd appreciate the help," Ethan said. Hagrid was the undisputed king of these woods, and having a guide who treated man-eating spiders like misunderstood kittens was a tactical advantage Ethan wasn't about to ignore.

The trio set off, with Hagrid leading the way, his massive crossbow slung over his shoulder and Fang the boarhound trotting nervously at his heels. Tonks stayed close to Ethan, her hair shifting to a camouflaged forest-green to blend in with the surroundings.
As they walked, the forest seemed to acknowledge Ethan's presence. Bowtruckles peeked out from the bark of oak trees, chattering in high-pitched whistles as he passed. In a clearing, a Unicorn stood like a statue of moonlight, dipping its head in a silent, elegant bow before vanishing back into the mist.
"They like yeh," Hagrid whispered, looking impressed. "Usually they don't come out fer just anyone. Especially not the unicorns."
"I have a very 'nature-friendly' aura," Ethan joked. In reality, the spiritual discipline of Kamar-Taj made his magic feel like a part of the natural world rather than an intrusion upon it.
However, actually finding the Stone was proving to be a pain in the ass. Ethan tried a few tracking spells, tracing the golden geometric lines of his magic through the air, but the signal was messy. He'd never seen the Stone before, and its magical signature was subtleâan echo of death that was easily drowned out by the vibrant, pulsing life of the forest.
"We're basically looking for a specific pebble in a five-mile radius of dirt," Tonks muttered, stepping over a rotting log. "Even for you, this is a bit of a stretch, isn't it?"
"Patience, Pinky," Ethan replied, though he was starting to consider just leveling the forest floor with a shockwave to see what didn't break.

As they neared the heart of the forest, the rhythmic sound of galloping hooves echoed through the trees. Suddenly, they were surrounded.
The Centaursâled by the stern, black-bodied Bane and the red-haired Ronanâemerged from the shadows, their bows drawn but not notched. They looked at Hagrid with familiarity, but their eyes quickly locked onto Ethan.
Hagrid stepped forward, his hands open. "Easy now, fellas. This is Ethan Williams. He's the one whoâ"
"We know who he is," Bane interrupted, his voice like grinding stone. He stepped closer to Ethan, his eyes searching Ethan's face with an intensity that felt like a physical weight. "The stars have been chaotic for weeks. We saw a star fall that did not belong to our sky. We saw the Serpent's end before it even began."
The centaurs lowered their heads, a gesture of profound, ancient respect that made Hagrid's jaw drop.
"You are the variable," Ronan said softly. "The one who walks between the lines of destiny. The forest honors your presence, Stranger. The item you seek lies ahead, near the hollow where the shadows were brightestâwhere the boy faced his end and found his beginning."
"Thanks," Ethan said, acknowledging the prideful creatures. "I appreciate the directions."
Bane watched them pass, his voice trailing behind them like a warning. "Remember, Traveler... some things are lost for a reason. But for you, the rules of the dead do not seem to apply."

Following the Centaurs' lead and the System's suddenly clarifying golden trail, Ethan stopped in a small, unremarkable clearing. The ground was littered with dead leaves and broken twigs, the site where Harry had walked to his supposed death only two nights prior.
Ethan knelt, his hand hovering over a patch of moss. He closed his eyes, filtering out the noise of the forest until he felt itâa cold, hollow pulse. He brushed away the debris, and there it was.
A small, black stone with a jagged crack down the center. The Resurrection Stone.
As Ethan picked it up, a surge of cold, ethereal energy climbed up his arm, meeting the heat of the Elder Wand and the Cloak already in his possession. The three items hummed in a terrifying, synchronized resonance, vibrating against his soul.

"Got it," Ethan said, standing up and tucking the stone into his pocket. The "Master of Death" title felt heavy, a cold weight in his chest that settled into a comfortable, icy shield.
"That's it?" Hagrid asked, scratching his beard. "Just a little black rock? All that trouble fer a bit of pebble?"
"It's a very special pebble, Hagrid," Ethan grinned.
