Chapter 400: Chapter 399: A Hard Sell Is No Sale
Thursdayâs targeted cosmetic surgery took seven hours and twenty-five minutes.
Fridayâs nasolabial deformity correction surgery for the orphanage children took five hours and thirty-six minutes.
Saturdayâs full-face plastic surgery for the nurse, Lv Xin, took six hours and seventeen minutes.
Three major surgeries in three consecutive days. For Yan Feifan, this was an absolute first.
It completely wiped him out. He was beyond exhausted.
Even his impeccably precise biological clock couldnât fight off the bone-deep exhaustion.
On Sunday morning, Yan Feifan opened his eyes and glanced at the digital clock on his desk. It was already 7:51 AM.
He dragged his aching body out of bed and left his bedroom listlessly. He saw Wang Chuan, Song Yi, Yu Chuanbai, Yu Suye, and his sister sitting in the living room, drinking tea and chatting.
"Hey, good morning..."
Yan Feifan gave them a weak wave and walked straight into the bathroom. He took care of business, washed up, and then took a hot shower, which managed to wake him up a little.
His stomach growling with hunger, he sat alone in the dining room eating breakfast.
But it wasnât long before Wang Chuan, Song Yi, Yu Suye, and the others all came into the dining room and sat down around the table.
Song Yi, dressed in a simple yet elegant custom-tailored suit and wearing light makeup, parted her pink lips and said, "Feifan, weâve changed the schedule a bit."
"For the 10:30 AM fundraising meeting, you donât need to give a speech. You just have to make an appearance."
Yan Feifan swallowed a wonton and said, "Okay, Iâll just make an appearance so they know Iâm actually involved."
He then asked, "How many people are confirmed to attend?"
Wang Chuan took over. "Mr. Pan, Mr. Yue, and Mr. Zuo will definitely be there."
"They also said they would contact a few interested friends."
"Ouyang Yanran will also be attending in a personal capacity."
Song Yi added, "On my end, Iâve confirmed four investors I contacted through various connections will be there."
Yu Chuanbai then explained, "We didnât notify the potential investors from Jingcheng. Weâll hold another meeting in Jingcheng in a few days."
Yan Feifan said "Oh," and added, "I hope everything goes smoothly..."
After he finished breakfast and got dressed, it was almost nine oâclock.
The group split into three cars and headed to the nearby five-star Jinxiu Grand Hotel, arriving at the conference venue they had rented in advance.
The venue wasnât very large, only about 120 or 130 square meters.
Besides a small, prepared podium with a projector screen, the main feature of the room was a circular conference table that could seat twenty people.
Behind each executive chair at the conference table, there were two swivel chairs for the assistants brought by the bosses.
The hollow center of the table was densely packed with neat, low arrangements of green plants and potted flowers.
The layout looked familiar to Yan Feifan. He felt it was somewhat similar to the room where the UN Security Council meets.
They were a bit early; none of the potential investors had arrived yet.
Song Yi, Yu Chuanbai, and the others hurriedly set up the venue.
They connected their laptops to the projector and calibrated it. They also set up several IV stands, hung bags of saline and glucose solution, attached IV lines with product samples, and activated the heating function.
Yan Ziruo, Yu Suye, and Wang Chuan also helped arrange the promotional materials, mineral water, and fruit.
Seeing this, Yan Feifan couldnât help but complain, "Isnât setting up the conference room a job for the companyâs pretty, elegant administrative staff, or the hotel waiters?"
"If we do it ourselves and the investors see this, theyâll think we have no resources and are completely broke."
Song Yi shot him a glare.
"We donât have a single âpretty and elegantâ employee. Right now, the only official employees of Extraordinary Medical Technology are me and Yu Chuanbai."
"Everyone else is just on loan to us from my brotherâs company."
"As for having the hotel staff do it?"
Song Yi lectured him in a penny-pinching tone, "You think thatâs free? During the startup phase, we save every penny we can."
Yan Feifan couldnât help but roll his eyes. "Song Yi, the cost of that one custom-made suit youâre wearing is more than enough to cover all of todayâs expenses, probably with some left over."
"You splurge on the big things but penny-pinch on the small stuff. I donât even know what to say to you!"
Song Yi tugged at her blazer and said, "Itâs custom-made by hand in Italy. Two hundred and sixty thousand."
"And I paid for it with my own money, hmph!"
Just then, someone pushed the door open and called out in a loud voice, "Mr. Yan, good morning! Mr. Wang, good morning!"
"Good morning, everyone..."
Yan Feifan looked over and saw it was an acquaintance, Ma Hongchen, the owner of the Jinxiu Hotel.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Ma Hongchen said cheerfully, "I was looking at the hotelâs event schedule today when I realized Mr. Yan was holding a meeting here."
He asked tentatively, "A fundraising meeting, is it?"
Yan Feifan grunted in affirmation and gave a simple explanation, "A few friends and I invested in and founded a medical technology company. Weâve designed a small medical device and need funding for a nationwide rollout."
Ma Hongchen let out a long "Ohhh" and then asked, "Mr. Yan, would it be too presumptuous of me to say that Iâd love to listen in and broaden my horizons?"
Yan Feifan said happily, "How could it be presumptuous? Youâre more than welcome, more than welcome..."
Just then, Yan Feifanâs phone started to ring.
He took it out and saw it was a call from Lu Yao.
With no news for several days, Yan Feifan had thought the overseas Chinese patient had given up on coming to him for treatment.
Yan Feifan excused himself, walked to a corner of the conference room, answered the call, and said rather bluntly, "What is it now?"
"Mr. Yan, well, um..."
Lu Yaoâs hesitant voice came through the phone. "A brain tumor surgery, and a very difficult skull base tumor at that, is extremely risky..."
Yan Feifan cut him off. "Iâm much more aware of the risks than you are."
"Get to the point. What is it now?"
There was a moment of silence. Lu Yaoâs voice came through the phone again, but this time, it was much more direct.
"Mr. Yan, Iâll be frank with you."
"This guy with the tumor... we need him. We want to use this surgery to build a closer relationship with him to facilitate future business collaborations."
"Itâs just that this guy is biased against the standard of medical care in our country."
"And his current attending physician doesnât believe that you, Mr. Yan, can perform at that level."
"Our idea is for you, Mr. Yan, to go abroad first and perform a demonstration surgery in front of them to prove your skill."
Lu Yao quickly added, "As long as you agree to go, regardless of the outcome, the Lu Family will offer ten million as a show of good faith."
"Mr. Yan, what do you think?"
Hearing the heavy breathing through the phone, Yan Feifan mulled it over for a moment, then said, "If that guy wants to survive this tumor surgery, coming to me is his only chance for a high probability of survival."
"Whatâs that old saying? A desperate seller never gets a good price."
"Iâm not in a hurry about this. And really, you guys donât need to be in a hurry either!"
"Itâs his life on the line, after all."
"If he dies, you can just find another partner."
After a pause, Yan Feifan continued slowly, "How about this: I can provide you with a detailed case file and a full surgical video to strengthen your case."
"As for going to the United States, I wonât do it."
"And let me remind you, the longer you delay, the lower the chances of a successful surgery..."
When Yan Feifan ended his call with Lu Yao, he saw that Pan Lirong and Mr. Zuo had already arrived...
