Chapter 2223: Absolutely Not Dead

Chapter 2223: Chapter 2223: Absolutely Not Dead

“Remember, keep a close watch. The High Priest Demon Heart and his followers will arrive soon; you must direct their attention toward Jun Chu.” He ordered.

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

The figure dressed in Black Clothes responded and immediately turned to leave.

The Monarch Emperor watched the departing silhouette of the figure, his gaze darkening.

This cannot continue; it’s not a sustainable plan. He doesn’t fully understand the High Priest Demon Heart’s abilities, and perhaps they have already figured out that this is merely a trap.

Even knowing he was ‘dead,’ they are still determined to come. It’s almost certain they are targeting him specifically.

They don’t believe he’s truly dead.

It seems, for the time being, he cannot step outside. He can only remain hidden and leave the matters beyond the walls to his subordinates. That cursed usurper who dared to seize his throne—he will reclaim it, eventually.

…

In the Jun Empire, within the imperial palace.

The newly appointed Monarch Emperor was seated in the imperial study room, before him, the newly instated Chancellor and several other ministers.

“Are you suggesting that the Late Emperor might not be dead?”

“Your Majesty, I believe it’s not that he might not be dead—he absolutely is not dead.” The Chancellor stated bluntly.

“What makes the Chancellor think so?”

The new Monarch Emperor furrowed his brow and asked. This possibility had not crossed his mind before.

He assumed that his actions had completely escaped the Late Emperor’s notice, leading to a confirmed poisoning. Moreover, everyone had witnessed the corpse firsthand, and the body showed no signs of disguise or altered appearance.

He had personally inspected every detail—it was impossible for him to have made a mistake.

Now they were suggesting that the Late Emperor had not died. It seemed improbable to him, and yet deep down, he felt the faint unease that his merciless, blood-stained elder brother might still be alive.

“If he truly isn’t dead, then what could possibly be his motive for acting this way?” He asked.

This made no sense—why pretend to succumb to poison, and voluntarily relinquish the throne when he could clearly avoid this outcome? It was absurd.

That man would never engage in such a thankless act.

Besides, he was fully aware of how much hatred lingered between them. The Late Emperor had left his woman and child behind in the palace while disappearing himself—wasn’t he afraid that they would all be wiped out entirely?

“He has no reason to act in such a manner.”

“Your Majesty, I’ve received word—regarding the Late Emperor’s efforts against the Yiinn Family—it’s erupted. The High Priest Demon Heart of Wulong Mountain has personally intervened on behalf of the Yiinn Family. Both Beikun Kingdom and the Central Imperial Country have already suffered the consequences—their emperors have been slain.”

Another minister stepped forward, cupped his hands, and reported.

He was a general who, upon learning this information, although unable to fully process it, had prioritized informing the Chancellor immediately.

So, this was how the current speculation had emerged.

“What did you say?”

The Monarch Emperor stood up abruptly from his chair, an expression of disbelief etched across his face as he stared at the general.

“Sealed General, repeat that—who has come?”

“Your Majesty, you heard me correctly—it is the High Priest Demon Heart who has arrived,” the Chancellor affirmed.

“I speculate that the Late Emperor, upon hearing that the High Priest Demon Heart was coming to settle scores with him, seized the opportunity to feign death and conceal himself, utilizing Your Majesty’s act of overthrowing the tyrant as cover.”

That was his hypothesis—it was highly likely that at this very moment, the Late Emperor was hiding somewhere, awaiting the arrival of the High Priest Demon Heart to confront the Monarch Emperor.

Moreover, he would surely have a contingency plan in place, biding his time until after the High Priest Demon Heart withdrew, when he would reclaim the throne once again.
