Dianaâs expression tightened slightly. âJayden declined the invitation. Said the purge incident at the Nexus Arena made him reconsider his priorities.â She paused, studying Lucasâs reaction. âHeâs focusing on transitioning to other military branchesâfactions, guides, anything that lets him have more control over his deployment scenarios.â
Lucas nodded slowly. âCanât say I blame him. Forced deployment into situations like today doesnât leave much room for personal choice.â
âBut itâs necessary,â Diana said firmly. âWeâre soldiers. Personal preferences are secondary to duty.â
âExactly.â For once, Lucas found himself agreeing with Diana Frost completely. âThe Harbingers arenât going to care about our comfort zones.â
