Lucas felt the familiar surge of power building in his core as he rose higher into the air, electricity beginning to cascade around his form like liquid fire. His twenty soldiers spread across the courtyard below, weapons raised but knowing their Ravager rifles would be useless against Harbinger hide.
"All squads, remember your training," Lucasâs voice carried across the battlefield with absolute authority. "Ravagers wonât penetrate their armor. Use your abilities, work in teams, and stay alive. Thatâs an order."
The transformation began.
Lightning erupted from Lucasâs body in brilliant cascades of white-hot energy, his physical form dissolving into pure plasma as his soul awakening activated. The air itself screamed as thousands of volts danced around him, turning him into a living thunderstorm suspended thirty feet above the ground. His consciousness expanded, perception accelerating to superhuman levels as electrical energy replaced blood in his veins.
This was his soul formâpure lightning given human will and tactical intelligence.
The nearest Harbinger, a nine-foot monster of corded muscle and natural armor, looked up at the transformation with predatory interest. Its single horn gleamed in the electrical discharge, and Lucas could see the intelligence behind those alien eyes calculating threat assessment and attack vectors.
Lucas struck first.
He moved at Mach 2, a streak of brilliant plasma that carved a burning line through the air. The sonic boom of his acceleration shattered windows in the facility buildings, and his fistânow composed of concentrated electrical energyâconnected with the Harbingerâs chest with the force of a lightning strike.
The impact was devastating. The Harbingerâs feet left the ground, its massive form tumbling through the air like a ragdoll before crashing into a rocky outcropping sixty meters away. The collision sent chunks of stone flying, leaving a crater where the alien predator had landed.
But it was already getting back up.
"Teams Alpha through Delta, engage remaining targets," Lucas commanded, his voice now carrying electronic harmonics that made the air vibrate. "Rememberâthey heal fast, so coordinate your attacks for maximum damage concentration."
Below him, the battle erupted into chaos.
Team Alphaâfour soldiers led by Rodriguezâimmediately engaged the second Harbinger. Rodriguezâs demolitions expertise had awakened into something far more dangerous: molecular destabilization. She pressed her palms against the ground and sent waves of structural breakdown through the earth beneath the Harbingerâs feet.
The alien stumbled as the solid rock turned to powder, and that moment of vulnerability was all her teammates needed. Medan, whose fire abilities could reach temperatures that melted steel, unleashed a concentrated stream of white-hot flame while Morrisonâice awakenedâflash-froze the air around the Harbingerâs legs, creating thermal shock that would have shattered normal materials.
The Harbinger roared, a sound like tearing metal, and swung a massive fist toward Medanâs head. The soldier dove sideways, but the punchâs wind displacement was enough to send him tumbling across the courtyard.
"Medanâs down!" Morrison shouted, creating ice barriers to buy time for their fourth memberâPatel, whose plant abilities were already sending root systems through the rocky ground to entangle the Harbingerâs feet.
Team Beta engaged their target with brutal efficiency. Vasquez led the assault, her sound wave abilities creating focused bursts of sonic energy that could shatter concrete. She directed a concentrated blast at the Harbingerâs skull, and Lucas saw the alien stagger as its equilibrium was disrupted.
Her teammates capitalized immediately. Williams, blood awakened, was manipulating disc like blood projectiles in the air, trying to hit the impressively mobile Harbinger, while Davies used his gravitational abilities to increase the alienâs effective weight by three times normal.
The Harbinger adapted faster than human reflexes should have allowed, spinning toward Davies with a haymaker that would have removed his head. Williams threw himself into the punchâs path, taking the impact across his ribs. Lucas heard the wet crack of bones breaking even from his elevated position, but Williams had bought Davies the split second needed to complete his gravitational field.
The Harbinger suddenly weighed nearly a ton, its movements becoming sluggish just as their fourth memberâJackson, mineral control awakenedâbegan forming crystalline spikes from the rocky ground, driving them upward into the alienâs legs and torso.
Lucasâs own opponent had recovered and was now airborne, having launched itself from the crater with enough force to reach his altitude. The Harbingerâs fist, moving like a falling anvil, passed inches from Lucasâs plasma form.
The missed punch created a shockwave that shattered every remaining window in the facility and sent his soldiers staggering. These beings could literally hit the air hard enough to cause structural damage.
Lucas retaliated with a lightning surge that would have powered a small city, electrical energy forming coherent beams that struck the falling Harbinger like the wrath of nature itself. The alienâs natural body armor smoked and cracked, but it was already healing by the time it hit the ground.
"Multiple Harbingers closing on Team Gamma," Torres reported, his communication abilities allowing him to coordinate between scattered units while dodging a swipe that would have decapitated him. "They need support!"
Lucas assessed the battlefield in microseconds. Team Gamma was in troubleâtwo Harbingers had coordinated their attack, forcing his soldiers into a defensive position that wouldnât hold much longer.
He dove toward the engagement, trailing plasma fire, and arrived just as Private Hassanâtheir healerâwas desperately trying to mend Thompsonâs shattered leg while energy blasts from awakened abilities filled the air around them.
"Hassan, get clear!" Lucas commanded, and the healer rolled away just as Lucas landed between the two Harbingers.
His plasma form pulsed with controlled fury as he grabbed the nearest alien by its skull, his electrical nature allowing him to make contact with its nervous system directly. He poured lightning into the creatureâs brainâthousands of volts designed to fry synapses and overload alien neural pathways.
The Harbinger convulsed, its roar becoming a shriek of pain, but it was still fighting back. Its fist caught Lucas in what would have been the ribs and even in the plasma form the impact sent shockwaves through his energy matrix.
He couldnât sustain the soul form much longerâthe power drain was enormous.
"All teams, coordinated assault on my mark," Lucas ordered, still pouring electricity into the Harbingerâs skull while its companion prepared to attack him from behind. "Target concentrations, maximum damage output, everything you have."
Team Delta had been waiting for this moment. Four soldiers working in perfect synchronizationâone with metal manipulation, one with sonic abilities, one whose awakened talent was molecular acceleration, and their fourth member who could manipulate electromagnetic fields.
They struck simultaneously.
The metal manipulator seized control of trace elements around the surrounding and began to slap them on the Harbingerâs body like an armor, twisting and tearing at its natural defenses while the sonic awakened created focused pressure waves that disrupted its inner ear. The molecular accelerator began increasing the speed of atomic movement in the alienâs left leg, creating heat that made its flesh begin to cook from the inside.
But it was the electromagnetic field manipulator who provided the killing blow. Working in concert with Lucasâs lightning form, she created a focused magnetic bottle that contained and amplified his electrical discharge.
The Harbinger Lucas was holding became a conductor for enough electricity to power a lightning storm. Its nervous system overloaded completely, synapses firing randomly as its brain literally cooked inside its skull. The alienâs massive form went rigid, then collapsed as its heart stopped from electrical overload.
The first Harbinger was down.
But the cost was becoming apparent. Williams was unconscious, his ribs caved in from taking that punch meant for Davies. Thompsonâs leg was twisted at an unnatural angle despite Hassanâs healing attempts. Medan had severe burns from a near-miss with Harbinger claws.
And there were still eleven aliens on the battlefield.
"Regroup and rotate," Lucas commanded, his plasma form beginning to flicker as the soul awakening drained his reserves. "Wounded to center, fresh teams take point positions."
Team Alpha had managed to bring their target to its knees through sustained assaultâRodriguezâs molecular destabilization had weakened its body armor enough for Morrisonâs ice attacks to penetrate, while Patelâs plant growth had literally grown thorned vines through the creatureâs circulatory system.
"Now!" Rodriguez shouted, and all four soldiers struck simultaneously.
Medan, despite his burns, unleashed every joule of thermal energy he could generate directly into the Harbingerâs chest cavity. Morrison flash-froze the superheated tissue, creating catastrophic thermal shock. Patelâs vines exploded outward from inside the alienâs body, while Rodriguez destabilized the molecular bonds holding its heart together.
The second Harbinger fell, its massive form hitting the ground with enough force to crack the concrete beneath.
But Lucas could see his soldiers were reaching their limits. The remaining nine Harbingers were adapting to their tactics, coordinating their attacks, using their superior physical capabilities to separate his teams and force individual combat.
His plasma form was becoming unstableâhe had maybe twenty minutes of soul awakening left before heâd have to return to human form.
Time to end this decisively.
Lucas rose higher into the air, gathering every remaining volt of electrical energy in his core. Lightning began to cascade downward like a waterfall of pure power, earthing itself through the Harbingers below in focused streams that turned the battlefield into a Tesla coil array.
"All teams, maximum dispersion," he commanded. "Stay clear of electrical discharge zones."
The remaining nine Harbingers writhed as concentrated lightning coursed through their bodies, their natural body armor conducting electricity directly to their vital organs. Lucas held the discharge for fifteen secondsâan eternity in combat timeâpouring everything he had into cooking alien nervous systems from the inside.
When the electrical storm finally ended, six more Harbingers lay motionless on the scorched battlefield. Heâd taken out six one horns simulationeously all by himself.
MONSTER, was the exact words, even when his team was under duress were thinking when they looked at their leader.
Three remained, but Lucas dropped out of his soul form. He hit the ground hard, his legs barely supporting his weight as normal human limitations reasserted themselves.
âThis is something I normally wouldnât do because I have him by my side,â the "him" in question was Noah.
Heâd almost emptied his soul form energy to take out everyone of them but some were still active.
The surviving Harbingers looked at him with predatory satisfaction, recognizing that their primary threat had been neutralized.
"All teams, converge on remaining targets," Lucas gasped, drawing his sidearm knowing it would be useless but unwilling to die without fighting. "Everything you have left."
His soldiers responded with the kind of desperate courage that defined professional military units. Despite their wounds, despite their exhaustion, despite facing aliens that could kill them with a single punch, they charged.
And Lucas had never been more proud of a unit in his entire military career.
These werenât Pathfinder Sevenâthey werenât his original team with more Harbinger combat experience and perfect tactical coordination.
But they were his soldiers now, and they were magnificent!
