"Iām such a fool. Even without the skills of a soldier, I never back down. If the team took you down, you want to get back at me? Then you must see if you have the ability to bring me down. If you canāt, donāt blame me later for not giving you a chance."
"Big talk. Iāll see what you plan to do with me."
"That depends on what you plan to do with me, havenāt you seen the evidence?" Han Yi said, taking out the documents he had snatched from Mei Langchi and waving them in front of him, intentionally provoking him.
"Hmph, letās see if you can take them away today," Mei Langchi said, picking up a wooden stick from the ground and swinging it at Han Yi.
Han Yi swiftly dodged, snorting with a laugh, "Iāve wanted to hit you for a long time, and since youāre the one making the first move today, Iāll show you that Iām not someone to be bullied."
With that, he directly reached out to grab Mei Langchiās stick with his bare hands.
The two of them in the courtyard, using sticks, shovels, broomsāanything they could use as weapons.
Even though Han Yi had an injury on his arm, he maintained the upper hand, and after several rounds, Mei Langchi was consistently overwhelmed.
...
Lin Wan woke up around two in the morning to find that Han Yi was no longer by her side. She thought he had gone to the bathroom, lying in bed with her eyes closed, waiting for him to return.
But after waiting for a good while and not seeing him return, Lin Wan groggily got out of bed. He was not in the room, and she couldnāt find any sign of him after searching the corridor for some time.
Not knowing where he had gone, Lin Wan felt worried and lay back in bed, unable to fall asleep.
It wasnāt until dawn was nearing that she saw Han Yi quietly coming in. Lin Wan lay on the bed, squinting, watching him sneak around, not planning to get up and question him.
When he lay down, Lin Wan noticed up close that Han Yi had injuries on his face.
Originally, she didnāt plan to confront him about sneaking out, but now seeing him covered in injuries, she couldnāt hold back any longer. She sat up suddenly, startling Han Yi, making him fall off the bed directly.
She heard him inhale sharply. Seeing his expression, Lin Wan knew he must have more injuries on his body.
"What happened? Did you go out in the middle of the night to fight someone?" Lin Wan turned on the hospital room lights, under which Han Yiās visible injuries alarmed her. She quickly got off the bed to help him.
Han Yi didnāt dare let her get up. He quickly stood and pressed her back into bed, "Donāt get worked up, itās not good for the baby."
"Then tell me, what happened to you?" Lin Wan brushed his hand aside, sat up, and asked worriedly.
"Got into a fight with Mei Langchi. Itās nothing, just some minor injuries, theyāll heal in a couple of days," Han Yi answered truthfully, not hiding anything from Lin Wan.
"A fight? Did he come looking for you?"
"No, I went to his house, found something, and got caught by him."
"You went to his place looking for evidence?" Lin Wan asked as she gently cradled Han Yiās face, examining him with care.
"Yeah, found some stuff," Han Yi pulled her hand down, dismissing it. "Itās nothing, just surface injuries. Mei Langchi couldnāt beat me; he got quite the beating himself."
"And you, getting caught by him, you wouldnāt just run? Why fight?"
"Iāve wanted to hit him for a long time. Since he gave me the chance, Iād be a fool not to take it."
Lin Wan disagreed with his words. "You hurt him, and you got injured yourself. Since you had evidence, we should just collect it all and hand it over to the police to handle it. Look, you were already injured, and now you have more injuries."
"A man can endure minor injuries; itās nothing."
"Sit down and take off your clothes. Let me see where youāre hurt," Lin Wan insisted, worrying about his injuries.
"Take it all off?"
"Cut the joking, just take them off," Lin Wan said, getting off the bed and taking out the anti-inflammatory medication the doctor had left in the afternoon.
After leaving Mei Langchiās siheyuan, Han Yi went home, changed out of his torn, dust-covered clothes, and only then headed to the hospital. Now, sitting on the bed, he quickly undressed for his wife to check.
His body was relatively okay, with just a few bruises.
Even so, Lin Wan carefully applied some anti-inflammatory medication to him. "Did you seriously injure Mei Langchi?"
"He wonāt be getting out of bed for ten days or half a month."
"That serious? What if... what if he bites back? You have a sensitive status."
"Itās fine, donāt worry."
But Lin Wan couldnāt help but worry, knowing he hadnāt slept well all night. Since it was still early, they both lay down and slept until daybreak.
They only woke up when the doctor came for rounds.
Godmother said last night before leaving that they shouldnāt go out to buy breakfast in the morning, and to wait for her to bring it over.
Who would have thought that before godmother showed up, an aggressive Xie Lingzhi would arrive.
Coming in, she pointed at Han Yi, angrily yelling, "Han Yi, you animal, what has my Xiao Chi ever done to you, that you beat him like that? Heās still your brother; have you no humanity?"
Han Yi regarded Xie Lingzhiās posture and frowned, quickly standing in front of the hospital bed. "Compared to your son, I donāt deserve the word āanimal.ā If it comes to a fight, your son didnāt explain it clearly, it was him who hit me first."
"Even if he hit you, you shouldnāt strike back so viciously, you ungrateful white-eyed wolf. We shouldnāt have let you in the Mei Family in the first place. Watch me beat you to death today," said Xie Lingzhi, not caring what Han Yi said. She slapped him hard without giving him a chance to dodge.
Han Yi initially thought she would just pound on him a bit, nothing he would fuss over arguing with an older woman, but unexpectedly she gave him a slap across the face.
This slap left Han Yi momentarily stunned.
Xie Lingzhi, in a state of anger now, was acting irrationally. Early that morning, she received a call from the hospital about her son being there, and upon rushing over, seeing her son on the bed wrapped in bandages nearly scared her stiff.
He had been perfectly fine just the afternoon before, and she couldnāt understand what happened overnight to make him like that.
After hearing her son say it was Han Yiās doing, Xie Lingzhi didnāt ask why, running straight over to confront Han Yi.
"Han Yi." In bed, Lin Wan saw Xie Lingzhi strike Han Yi and got off the bed, pushing Xie Lingzhi away.
But Xie Lingzhi, not caring about Lin Wanās condition, retaliated by pushing Lin Wan, whose body was weak from blood loss and lacked strength. With that push, Lin Wan staggered back, dizzy. If not for Han Yi holding her, she would have fallen to the ground.
"Xiao Wan?"
"Xiao Wan"
"Xiao Zhi"
"What are you doing?" Han Yi, suddenly furious, was just about to grab Xie Lingzhi by the collar when he noticed a familiar figure rushing in through the door.
Getting in, with a loud smack, someone slapped Xie Lingzhi hard, "Which shrew dares to hit my son and daughter-in-law?"
"Mom, Dad," Lin Wan didnāt expect her parents to arrive at that moment, and even her mother-in-law had shown up.
Before her parents could say anything to her, Xie Lingzhi, who had just been slapped, glared angrily at Shen Qing, pointing at her.
"Who are you to call me a shrew and dare to hit me? See if I wonāt tear you apart," Xie Lingzhi exclaimed, not having realized who Shen Qing was.
At her age, it was the first time someone had slapped her face, and Xie Lingzhi couldnāt stand it. Speaking, she lunged forward with both hands ready to fight Shen Qing.
