ăNewark City. The Manor Hotel.ă
Amidst a subtle ripple in Space, Chu Shengâs form materialized out of thin air.
However,
the luxurious suite where Gu Yuexi had been staying was now deathly quiet.
The curtains were half-drawn, sunlight spilling onto the empty king-sized bed.
Not a soul was in sight.
âWhereâd she go?â
Chu Sheng flapped his wings, circling the room once.
âIs her seclusion over?â
Chu Sheng frowned, and just as he was about to activate his Nether Vision...
TAP. TAP. TAP.
A light tapping sound came from the windowpane.
Chu Sheng turned to look.
A small, palm-sized bird, entirely emerald green, was perched on the windowsill. It tilted its head, its beady black eyes staring intently at him.
âThis bird... itâs not a real creature.â
Chu Sheng saw through its nature at a glance. It was a condensation of extremely pure Spiritual Power, bearing Gu Yuexiâs Spirit imprint.
âSomething Gu Yuexi left behind?â
His interest piqued, Chu Sheng flew toward it.
Seeing Chu Sheng approach, the emerald bird seemed to confirm his identity. It nodded in a surprisingly human-like manner, then its body abruptly disintegrated.
WHOOSH.
As the light faded, the emerald bird transformed into a dry, yellow leaf that fluttered gently onto the windowsill.
Simultaneously, a cold and concise message was transmitted directly into Chu Shengâs mind.
I have gone to the Celestial Trace Abyss.
And that was it.
Just that single sentence.
Gu Yuexiâs message was simple. It only stated her whereabouts and didnât ask Chu Sheng to do anything.
Whether to follow her or not was entirely up to him.
Clearly, she trusted him to make his own decision.
âCelestial Trace Abyss?â
âWhere is that? A Secret Realm?â
Chu Sheng flew to the desk and landed on the laptop.
As a modern mosquito who kept up with the times, heâd long since maxed out his skill in surfing the web.
It was a bit of a struggle to operate, though.
The tiny black mosquito hopped up and down on the keyboard as if performing a dance, TAP-TAP-TAPPING on the keys.
If anyone had witnessed this, they would have likely started to question their own sanity.
Soon, the search results came up.
âHoly cow, itâs a King-level Secret Realm?â
The data showed that the Celestial Trace Abyss was a King-level Secret Realm recently discovered by the White Eagle Empire, located deep within the uninhabited lands of the empireâs northwest.
A King-level Secret Realm!
Across all of Blue Star, there were fewer than twenty known King-level Secret Realms in total!
The opening of any King-level Secret Realm often signified vast resources, lost ancient legacies, and... opportunities so great they could drive people to madness.
Of course, this was accompanied by the risk of near-certain death.
Part of the reason the White Eagle Empire had held its position as the worldâs number one superpower for so many years was its control over a staggering eight King-level Secret Realms!
The Celestial Trace Abyss was their eighth and most recent discovery.
Every King-level Secret Realm was unique. Some were enormous, others could be tiny, and some even operated under bizarre and unnatural laws.
Even the White Eagle government was still in the preliminary stages of exploring the Celestial Trace Abyss.
There wasnât much public information.
Its opening cycle was similar to the Ancient Sunken Star Veinâit opened and closed at regular intervals.
This time, it had already been open for three days.
âSo, should I go, or not?â
âOr should I keep messing around in the White Eagle Empire? Go for another harvest?â
...
Chu Sheng closed the laptop, lost in thought.
âIn other words, Gu Yuexi has been inside for three whole days?â
âThat womanâs got some serious guts. Just what youâd expect from the Empress...â
âDaring to enter a King-level Secret Realm when sheâs only at the Sixth or Seventh Grade? And without me to accompany her?â
âGetting a little full of herself, isnât she?â
However.
âSince it was a place Gu Yuexi planned to go, there had to be good stuff there. Heh heh!â
âIâll go!â
âI have to go!â
âSince itâs a King-level Secret Realm, thereâs bound to be plenty of treasure inside.â
BUZZ! (âLetâs go!â)
No longer hesitating, Chu Sheng had already memorized the location of the Celestial Trace Abyss while researching it.
He closed his eyes. The next second, he vanished without a trace.
...
After two uses of Instant Teleportation, Chu Sheng appeared deep within a massive mountain range perpetually shrouded in mist.
Ahead, the air was filled with spatial rifts visible to the naked eye, like gruesome wounds.
At the center of these rifts, a massive, swirling vortex slowly rotated, emanating an ancient and desolate aura.
The entrance to the Celestial Trace Abyss!
Somewhat to Chu Shengâs surprise, there were no White Eagle personnel guarding the area...
But on second thought, he understood why.
This was a King-level Secret Realmâan unexplored one, at that.
A place like this needed no guards. After all, very few were suicidal enough to venture inside.
Only a Cultivator of Ninth Grade or higher would even attempt to enter a Ninth Grade Secret Realm, and even they wouldnât dare venture too deep... unless they had a death wish.
BUZZ. (âA little interesting.â)
Chu Sheng hovered before the entrance, his antennae twitching slightly as he sensed the violent Energy pouring out from within.
Without a momentâs hesitation.
He beat his wings and plunged directly into the massive vortex.
...
After a brief wave of dizziness passed.
Chu Sheng had entered the Secret Realm.
He was immediately taken aback by the Secret Realmâs unique landscape.
It wasnât a jungle, a desert, or an oceanânothing of the sort...
As far as the eye could see, it was a world of utter gray decay.
This was a canyon of unimaginable size.
The stone walls on either side soared into the clouds, seeming to pierce the very heavens. They were like two colossal walls connecting sky and earth, their tops completely out of sight.
The sky was a leaden gray, hanging so low it felt suffocating, as if it could steal the very air from oneâs lungs.
Not a single blade of grass grew on the ground, which was littered with enormous, bizarrely shaped rocks and the massive, long-weathered skeletons of giant creatures.
Deathly silence.
Desolation.
This was Chu Shengâs first impression of the Celestial Trace Abyss.
Furthermore, the canyon stretched straight ahead with no end in sight, seeming to go on forever!
âNo scent of any Demon Beasts?â
Chu Sheng sniffed the air, a little disappointed.
Then, he sensed that something was off... It felt as if some extra weight was pressing on him, and his whole body felt strangely constrained.
âWhatâs going on?â
Chu Sheng tried flapping his wings, circling once in place.
He quickly pinpointed the problem.
It was the gravity!
The gravity was wrong!
The sensation was faint. If he hadnât just finished evolving, his senses sharpened to their absolute peak, he likely wouldnât have noticed it at all.
After a quick mental calculation, Chu Sheng arrived at an astonishing conclusion:
The gravity here was about a hundred times that of the outside world!
One hundred times gravity!
If a normal person were to stand here, theyâd be instantly crushed into a pancake by their own weight, not even leaving bone fragments behind.
Even a Low Tier Martial Artist would be pinned to the ground, unable to move.
But for Chu Sheng...
âA hundred times?â
Chu Sheng lifted one of his legs and examined it.
âMy current weight, as Lord Mosquito, is a few milligrams at most, right?â
âA hundred times that is just a few hundred milligrams.â
âThatâs jack squat!â
âNo wonder I felt something was off but couldnât put my finger on it. My body is so light that even a hundred times the normal gravity is a negligible amount for me.â
BUZZ BUZZ. (âLooks like this Secret Realmâs attempt to intimidate newcomers doesnât work on me.â)
Chu Sheng chuckled to himself, not taking it seriously at all.
He beat his wings and flew forward about a thousand meters.
Instantly!
The pressure grew much more noticeable!
He focused his Perception for a moment. The gravity had suddenly increased to a thousand times normal!
âA hundred times the gravity for every hundred meters?â
âA thousand times for a thousand meters?â
âDoes that mean ten thousand meters will be ten thousand times gravity?â
âCould it be... the deeper I go, the stronger the gravity gets?â
âNow this is interesting!â
