Chapter 1433: Request for an Edict

“Hahahaha!” The Emperor burst into laughter and remarked, “What a twist! Do you know what the Noble Consort is imploring me for today? She stated that Miss Tian is willing to accompany you to Qingdi!”

Princess Shuangfu was taken aback and felt utterly helpless. “Father, Father…”

Miss Tian? The niece favored by Honored Princess Mei?

Despite living in seclusion, palace gossip spread rapidly. She had heard of the rumors concerning Miss Tian and Lord Shao. Bi Yun and Qing Tao had returned to provide her with gossip to alleviate her boredom.

Did Miss Tian truly intend to accompany her to Qingdi? Princess Shuangfu found it difficult to believe that there were no ulterior motives behind such an offer.

The Emperor seemed to find the situation amusing as he said with a smile, “Very well, Yuzhen, the choice is yours. Would you like Miss Tian to accompany you, or Madame Shao?”

Honored Princess Mei responded with a snort and a playful chuckle. “Emperor, you have quite the sense of humor!”

She giggled and emphasized “humor” coquettishly, all while casting a sidelong glance at Princess Shuangfu.

Even though Princess Shuangfu had lowered her head, she could still feel the piercing gaze, causing her slender frame to tremble ever so slightly.

She made an effort to convince herself that she hadn’t seen the Noble Consort’s meaningful look…

“Father, as the envoy, it’s more appropriate for Madame Shao to accompany you—”

“The Emperor is inquiring about your preference. Princess, simply state your choice. You needn’t concern yourself with other matters.”

Honored Princess Mei interjected with a smile before Princess Shuangfu could finish her sentence. Her intent was crystal clear.

Princess Shuangfu’s heart raced, yet she spoke softly, “Father, thanks to your kindness, I spent three days away from the court during the Spring Festival. Madame Shao was with me the entire time. I feel that I have become quite acquainted with Madame Shao, and I would like to ask her to accompany me, if that pleases you.”

Honored Princess Mei’s once-beaming countenance stiffened as she unconsciously balled her fists.

This ungrateful child!

The Emperor paid her no mind and simply chuckled while nodding. “You’re right, that settles it then! Madame Shao is the more suitable choice.”

“Yes, thank you, Father!”

“Very well!”

Princess Shuangfu didn’t dare to linger any further. Most importantly, Honored Princess Mei’s glare was as sharp as a knife. She couldn’t withstand it.

As they exited the Thousand Year Palace, Princess Shuangfu held Auntie Si’s hand, and her legs felt wobbly, almost causing her to stumble.

She heaved a long sigh of relief and took some time to regain her composure.

Auntie Si offered a forced smile and whispered, “Princess, there’s no need to worry. You’re the most fitting candidate for the marriage. No one will dare to challenge you at this juncture…”

Princess Shuangfu nodded. “You’re right.”

Indeed, at most, Honored Princess Mei might harbor resentment toward her.

In any case, she had no intention of remaining in the palace any longer. If she bore any grudges, she wouldn’t let it concern her.

Unbeknownst to her, as soon as she departed, the Emperor turned to Honored Princess Mei and declared, “Shanshan isn’t young anymore. I will find her a suitable family.”

With a sigh, Honored Princess Mei responded with a half-truth and half-fake smile, “This is the will of fate. No one can compare to the Emperor’s first choice.”

The Emperor smiled helplessly. “That girl is far too stubborn. You should persuade her. Her recent remarks were absurd. She’s still a young girl, and even though she will be accompanying the princess, Minister Shao is the envoy. It’s not appropriate for her to act in this manner.”

“Why must you meddle with her?”

Honored Princess Mei was taken aback. She recognized that the Emperor’s words reflected his disapproval. Swiftly, she responded, “Yes, I have indeed spoiled her too much. Reflecting on it, it’s my fault. I will make sure to persuade her.”
