"Go check if Dongxue is in the yard, and if so, bring her over to my house too. Your third aunt made meat buns today."
After Yang Chuxia said this, Yang Qingbao still stood dumbfounded. Yang Chuxia raised her voice a little, "What are you standing there for, you little brat? Itching for a beating?"
"Oh, oh, Iâll go now." Yang Qingbao quickly ran towards the yard when he saw that Yang Chuxia seemed unhappy.
Yang Chuxia rolled her eyes; this little brat wouldnât know to behave unless you were tough with him.
Yang Dayong laughed from behind, "Youâve really scared the poor kid."
"Thatâs good. Heâll grow up to be more disciplined and wonât end up like his parents." Yang Chuxia shrugged her shoulders.
"Right? They say you can predict a childâs future character at three and seven years old. This kid probably wonât be like his parents, looks promising."
As they talked, Yang Qingbao brought Yang Dongxue out with him.
Then the group of them went to the third branch of the family, where they found Ms.Wang taking the meat buns out of the pot.
"Oh, cousin, youâre here! Go wash your hands, the buns just came out of the pot." As she spoke, Ms.Wang turned to Tieshu and the others, "All of you, go wash your hands too, then come and eat the buns. The meat soup is in the pot, Xiaxia, serve a bowl for your Uncle Dayong."
"Alright."
Yang Chuxia went to get a bowl for the soup and picked up a basket, then took some of Ms.Wangâs buns to let them cool. For lunch, Ms.Wang made buns instead of cooking meat dishes; there were only two vegetable dishes. Yang Chuxia also fetched some pickles theyâd eat on normal days and served two bowls.
When everyone had finished washing up and the buns had cooled down, they all sat down to eat.
Ms. Wangâs meat buns were truly filled with meat, unlike the ones you could buy in town, which would have some vegetables added. She used pork belly with some scallions, ginger, and garlic to make the filling, so they tasted even better. The whole family loved them.
"Dongxue, why arenât you eating?"
Everyone was sitting and eating buns, drinking meat soup, except for the little girl who wasnât eating the bun in her hand or touching the soup in front of her.
"Third Aunt, can I have another bun, please?" Seeing Ms. Wang ask her, she asked Ms. Wang instead.
Ms.Wang thought Dongxue hadnât had enough to eat, so she took another bun from the basket and handed it to her.
"Here, there are more. Help yourself after you finish eating this one."
The little girl didnât say anything, instead, she just stuffed the buns into her own pouch.
"What the heck are you doing?" This adult-like sentence definitely did not come from Yang Chuxia. It was said by Yang Xiayun who loved to follow Yang Chuxia around and had even learned a few modern phrases from her.
She was shocked by Yang Dongxueâs action.
"I want to take it home to my dad. He said he wanted to eat some too." Yang Dongxue replied.
Yang Qingbao added from the side, "When Dongxue and I were leaving, our fourth uncle and aunt told us to take some buns back and not mention that they asked for them."
Upon hearing this, Old Yang slammed his bowl on the table, stopped eating and went back to his room, fuming. He couldnât understand why he had such a petty son.
Yang Chuxia also couldnât help but twitch her lips. That couple really never stopped eyeing their familyâs stuff.
After thinking for a moment, Yang Chuxia took the bun that Dongxue had stuffed into her pouch and asked, "Dongxue, do you want to eat big meat buns every day?"
Seeing the bun taken away, Yang Dongxue wanted to cry, but upon hearing Yang Chuxiaâs question, she didnât have time to cry. Instead, she nodded her head vigorously and replied crisply, "I do!"
