Wen Zhixia was visiting the doctoral building in Xinyao District for the first time.
The area wasnât large and was quite remote, with no teaching buildings around; normally, other than the schoolâs own staff coming to clock in, there were hardly any passersby.
The café was also quiet.
As soon as Wen Zhixia arrived, she saw He Wen sitting opposite Bai Lian, the two of them discussing mathematical models in low voices.
She sat down next to Bai Lian.
âHi,â He Wen was sitting across from her, with a silver laptop in front of him, his fingers resting on the touchscreen.
Wen Zhixia didnât know He Wen, and she couldnât understand most of the conversation between Bai Lian and him.
She simply held the coffee Bai Lian had ordered for her, with one hand on her knee and the other holding the coffee cup, watching Bai Lian interact with He Wen from the corner of her eye.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, a car marked with the instituteâs special logo slowly came to a halt.
He Wen caught a glimpse of the car out of the corner of his eye, quickly finished his coffee, grabbed his laptop and notebook, and headed out the door, âIâve got to go!â
It was only after he left that Wen Zhixia spoke to Bai Lian, âWho was that just nowâŠâ
âHe Wen,â Bai Lian redirected his attention, recalling the matter at hand, âHow is the hair dryer project progressing?â
âYan Lu is taking promotional photos,â Wen Zhixia said, taking a sip of her hot coffee to suppress her excitement, âIâm just⊠worried if this project might affect her commercial value.â
Aside from leading the project, Wen Zhixia was also a fan of Yan Lu.
Having Yan Lu endorse an about-to-fail hairdryer simply wasnât befitting of her status.
Wen Zhixia voiced her concerns, âOur hairdryer is too common and lacks renown. Yan Lu should be endorsing those international big brandsâŠâ
âIt might not be that common,â Bai Lian said while picking up his coffee cup, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the side of the cup as he listened to Wen Zhixia.
âWhat do you mean?â Wen Zhixia was about to ask what was out of the ordinary.
But Bai Lian stretched out his hand and passed a piece of paper to Wen Zhixia, âHere, take this.â
Wen Zhixia reached out and took it.
It was an approximately fifty-centimeter-wide blueprint.
Wen Zhixia hadnât studied electromechanics, but she had at least been in an international class in high school and could make out a bit of the generator principle.
There was a clearly noticeable airplane-like logo at the bottom right.
âWhatâs this?â
âA blueprint for the hairdryer,â Bai Lian guessed that Jiang Fulai must have been pondering over this since last summer vacation, otherwise it couldnât have been produced so quickly, âTake it back and discuss it with the rest of the project team.â
Still surprised by the blueprint provided by Bai Lian, Wen Zhixia took the paper back to the company.
Manager Zhang and the product team pondered over it for a while, âSo this works by applying a high voltage to water with electrodes, atomizing to generate water ions. Miss, we should really make a prototype of this design.â
Wen Zhixia nodded, âDo make sure to find reliable people to customize the parts.â
Custom part manufacturing usually took quite a long time, but the Wen Family had their own workshop, capable of completing the customization in two or three days.
Bai Lian brought several cups of milk tea back to the laboratory.
He wanted to ask Zhou Wenqing for a couple of days off to visit Academician Ma.
âJunior sister, when you go in later, there are people in the teacherâs office,â Hu Yue inserted a straw into her drink and leaned to whisper, âThereâs been a lot of people looking for the teacher in the past month.â
âMight be due to a promotion,â Ding Wenyang added from the side, âYou know, Professor Zhou has just been promoted to Vice Dean.â
âThat could be it,â Tang Ming said, bringing over a report, his gaze shifting towards Bai Lian, âBut I think, thereâs probably more to it.â
**
At the Chen Familyâs residence.
Ren Wanxuan was standing outside the courtyard with the Dong Family, as Elder Dong was giving her instructions in a low voice, âAfter you go in, thereâs no need to talk too much. I will speak on your behalf; just be bold, and even if you feel scared, donât bow your head. The old master doesnât like that.â
After repeatedly making sure Ren Wanxuan understood, Elder Dong led her in.
Inside Elder Chenâs tea room,
President Jian was brewing tea for Elder Chen. His movements were unhurried, and the rich tea poured smoothly from the spoutâhis demeanor exhibited a leisureliness that set him apart from others.
âYouâve improved a lot in your tea brewing,â Elder Chen remarked as he sipped from his cup, âDid she teach you?â
âShe doesnât have the patience to teach me. I learned by observing her,â said President Jian, glancing at the time. He then set down the teapot and stood up: âElder Chen, I need to head back now.â
He had a class that evening.
As he left through the archway, he happened to run into several members of the Dong Family escorting Ren Wanxuan.
Elder Dong recognized President Jian and greeted him politely. Ren Wanxuan, standing beside him, looked up and gave President Jian an extra glance, feeling that he looked very familiar.
